SALYERSVILLE —Magoffin County couldn’t battle back from behind as Lawrence County won 14-3 in six innings on Thursday, April 9.
The Hornets hosted the Bulldogs for a home opener.
Lawrence County scored first and never trailed. The Bulldogs led 7-0 midway through the second inning.
Grant Cochran pitched a complete game for Lawrence County and earned the win on the mound. Cochran recorded four strikeouts.
Isaac Howard started on the mound for Magoffin County and suffered the loss.
Following Howard, both Gavin Arnett and Parker Bowling pitched in relief for the Hornets.
Each Magoffin County pitcher pitched two innings and posted one strikeout.
Lawrence County scored 14 runs on 11 hits. Cochran (two hits, two RBIs), Brady Caudill (two hits, one RBI), Maddox Fletcher (two hits), Owen Pack (one hit, two RBIs), Max Murriel (one hit, one RBI), Braxton Davis (one hit, one RBI), Boedy Maynard (one hit) and Gray Derifield (one hit) each contributed offensively for the Bulldogs. Both Caudill and Davis doubled.
Magoffin County plated three runs on four hits. Arnett (one hit, one RBI), Chance Risner (one hit, one RBI), Aiden Carty (one hit, one RBI) and Michael Trusty (one hit) accounted for Magoffin County’s offense. Productive on the basepaths, Bailey scored two of the Hornets’ three runs.
Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Lawrence County for a regular season finale on Friday, May 15.
