Hornets fall to Golden Eagles

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County lost its 57th District opener as Johnson Central pulled away to win 7-1 on Tuesday, April 14.

As a result of the loss, much-improved Magoffin County slipped to 6-5 overall.

Karson Powers started on the mound for Johnson Central and earned the win. Powers pitched four innings and recorded nine strikeouts.

Aiding Johnson Central defensively, Dalton Boner and Eli Bolden each pitched in relief.

Isaac Howard started on the mound for Magoffin County and suffered the loss. Howard pitched six innings and recorded four strikeouts.

Following Howard, Hunter Arnett pitched one inning in relief for the Hornets.

Johnson Central scored seven runs on eight hits. Boner (one hit, one RBI), Braxton Perry (two hits, two RBIs), Chase Preece (one hit, three RBIs), Kyler Callaham (one hit, one RBI), Brayden Shepherd (one hit), Kaleb Callaham (one hit) and Kaden Litteral (one hit) were each productive in Johnson Central’s lineup. Providing a lift at the plate, Perry homered while Boner doubled.

Magoffin County pushed across one run on six hits. Howard (one hit, one RBI), Mason Peck (two hits), Chance Risner (two hits) and Aden Montgomery (one hit) accounted for Magoffin County’s offense. Montgomery tripled and scored the Hornets’ lone run.

Each team committed a pair of errors in the 57th District game.

Magoffin County was visiting Johnson Central for another 57th District game at press time on Wednesday, April 15.
