SALYERSVILLE – The Salyersville Water Works Commission remains in limbo with only one commissioner.
Last week, roughly one week after his first meeting, Jim Arnett resigned from the city water board, telling the SI he resigned for personal reasons and that it just wasn’t for him.
Prior to his resignation, Josh Puckett also resigned from the commission due to moving out of the service area, which leaves Tommy Bailey as the only sitting board member at this time.
Bailey was appointed by Mayor Stanley Howard after he took office in January, replacing Terry Marshall. Marshall was removed from the board after Mayor Howard contacted the League of Cities to confirm that Marshall was improperly appointed by former Mayor James “Pete” Shepherd, who re-appointed him in December before leaving office to a vacancy that did not start until January.
After Bailey took office, Jim Hoskins also resigned from the board due to disagreements with Bailey. Within the same week, David Gardner also stepped down as superintendent of SWW, with Nora Howard now filling that position.
Salyersville Water Works Commission has a regular meeting time of the last Tuesday of the month at 10 a.m., but technically the board cannot meet without a quorum, meaning at least two board members. Commissioners are appointed by the mayor but are subject to approval by the city council.
