SALYERSVILLE – Two of Magoffin County’s top three receivers are set to return to the gridiron in 2021.

Both Aden Barnett and Grayson Whitaker are slated to return for the Hornets.

Barnett led Magoffin County in receiving during the 2020 high school football season, reeling in 27 receptions for 515 yards and eight touchdowns. He was one of the state’s top sophomore athletes in the 2020 high school football season. In addition to thriving through the air, Barnett was the Hornets’ third-leading rusher, rushing 20 times for 137 yards and three touchdowns.

Whitaker finished as Magoffin County’s third-leading receiver in the 2020 high school football season as a freshman, claiming 10 receptions for 250 yards and four touchdowns. A productive freshman, Whitaker delivered throughout his first high school varsity football season.

Nine Magoffin County receivers combined to made 82 catches for 1,492 yards and 18 touchdowns during the 2020 high school football season. Senior Brad Standifer ranked as the Hornets’ second-leading receiver, grabbing 23 catches for 476 yards and three touchdowns.

The Hornets compiled a 3-4 record during the 2020 high school football season. Magoffin County made an appearance in the 2020 KHSAA Class 3A Playoffs.
