Lady Hornets outlast Elliott County

SANDY HOOK — Magoffin County outlasted Elliott County 8-6 in a late-season high school softball game on Monday, May 11.

The Lady Hornets improved to 10-9 after notching the win. Magoffin County is closing in on its win total from the 2025 high school softball season. The Lady Hornets compiled a 12-13 record one season ago.

Ava Hensley pitched a complete game for Magoffin County and earned the win in the circle. Hensley recorded four strikeouts.

Magoffin County benefitted from a balanced offensive attack, scoring eight runs on 12 hits. Abby Barnett (three hits, two RBIs), Kelsey Slone (two hits, two RBIs), Bella Trusty (two hits, two RBIs), Karissa Keeton (one hit), Maci Minix (one hit), Jaycie Wells (one hit), Kiley Lemaster (one hit), Kailyn Arnett (one hit) and Macy Williams each contributed offensively for the Lady Hornets. Barnett doubled twice. Adding another extra-base hit, Slone connected for one double.

Magoffin County defeated Elliott County for the second time in the 2026 high school softball season.

Magoffin County 17. Phelps 2 (5 innings): Magoffin County rolled past Phelps 17-2 in five innings on Saturday, May 9.

Karissa Keeton pitched a complete game for Magoffin County and earned the win in the circle. Keeton recorded 13 strikeouts.

Magoffin County scored 17 runs on 10 hits. A diverse offensive attack for Magoffin County included Keeton (one hit, one RBI), Jaycie Wells (three hits, one RBI), Kelsey Slone (two hits, one RBI), Kiley Lemaster (one hit, two RBIs), Baylee Hatfield (one hit, one RBI), Lucy Whitaker (one hit, one RBI), Abby Barnett (one hit, one RBI), Bella Trusty (three RBIs), Kailyn Arnett (one RBI), Maci Minix, Macy Williams and Paityn Risner contributing. Keeton, Wells and Lemaster each doubled.
