Hornets shut out Jackson City in 5 innings, 14-0

SALYERSVILLE — Returning to the win column, Magoffin County shut out visiting Jackson City 14-0 in five innings on Monday, April 24.

Magoffin County moved ahead early, scoring six runs in the bottom half of the first inning.

Leading 8-0, Magoffin County plated six runs for the second time in the bottom half of the fourth inning to extend its lead.

Magoffin County pitcher Colin Litteral earned the win on the mound. Litteral pitched a one-hit shutout, allowing only one walk while registering eight strikeouts.

Jackson City starting pitcher Preston Turner took the loss on the mound. Turner pitched three innings, allowing four earned runs on eight hits.

Aiding the Tigers defensively, Jacob Morgan pitched one inning in relief.

Litteral (one hit), Austin Gevedon (two hits, one RBI), Ian McCarty (one hit, two RBIs), Carter Whitaker (one hit, one RBI), Isaac Howard (one hit, one RBI), Aden Barnett (one hit, one RBI), Gavin Arnett (one hit, one RBI), Ethan Sayer (one hit), Khauner Bain (one hit), Parker Bowling (one hit), Braxton Howard (one hit) and Noah Howard (one RBI) each contributed at the plate for Magoffin County in its shutout win. Both McCarty and Whitaker doubled.

Magoffin County and Jackson City aren’t scheduled to meet again in the 2023 high school baseball season.
