SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County competed in the 57th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament on Monday. Feb. 24.
Number one seed Johnson Central pulled away to defeat Magoffin County 62-19 in the opening game of the 57th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament.
Johnson Central took control early and separated itself from tournament host Magoffin County.
Following the loss, Magoffin County slipped to 6-22. Magoffin County will compete in a 15th Region Girls’ Basketball Tournament play-in game later in the week.
With the win, Johnson Central improved to 23-3. Johnson Central was set to vie for the 57th District girls’ basketball title at press time.
In the second game of the 57th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament, Paintsville outlasted Martin County 62-59 in overtime.
Crosstown rivals Johnson Central and Paintsville were meeting in the 57th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament Championship Game on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
