Barnett leads Hornets in passing, rushing

SALYERSVILLE — Junior athlete Aden Barnett led Magoffin County in passing and rushing during the 2022 high school football season.

Prior to suffering a season-ending injury, Barnett, a longtime leader for the Hornets, ranked among the top high school football athletes in the state.

Pacing Magoffin County through the air during the 2022 high school football season, Barnett completed 44 passes for 747 yards and nine touchdowns.

Leading the Hornets on the ground during the 2022 high school football season, Barnett rushed 83 times for 908 yards and 11 touchdowns.

As a team, Magoffin County thrived on the ground throughout the 2022 high school football season, rushing 299 times for 2,688 yards and 30 touchdowns. The Hornets averaged 244.4 yards and 2.7 touchdowns on the ground during the 2022 high school football season.

Three different Magoffin County passers combined to complete 59 passes for 909 yards and nine touchdowns.

In Coach John DeRossett’s first season, Magoffin County finished fourth in Class 3A, District 8. The Hornets made an appearance in the KHSAA Class 3A State Playoffs and compiled a 4-7 record.

Barnett led Magoffin County in scoring during the 2022 high school football season. The productive Barnett scored 82 points in only seven games.

In addition to Barnett, several other experienced players are due back on the field for Magoffin County in the 2023 high school football season.

Magoffin County will finalize and release its 2023 schedule later in the offseason.
