Hornets 8-7 through first 15 games

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County has compiled a winning record midway through the 2023-24 boys’ high school basketball regular season.

The Hornets are 8-7 through the first 15 games of the 2023-24 boys’ high school basketball regular season, which tipped off in late-November.

Under the direction of Coach Scott Castle, Magoffin County remains a title contender.

Magoffin County faced a challenging schedule throughout the first half of the 2023-24 boys’ high school basketball season.

The Hornets have notched wins over Wolfe County, Letcher County Central, Pike County Central, Shelby Valley, Wilson Central (Tenn.), Estill County, Lawrence County and Johnson Central.

Magoffin County has suffered losses to Perry County Central, Ashland, Archbishop Shaw (La.), McMinn County (Tenn.), Montgomery County, Wolfe County and Boyd County.

The Hornets have regular season games remaining versus Pike County Central, Paintsville, West Carter, Floyd Central, Betsy Layne, Martin County, Ashland, Johnson Central, Shelby Valley, Pikeville and East Ridge.

Magoffin County entered the 2023-24 boys’ high school basketball season ranked among the 15th Region’s Top 5 teams. A veteran lineup excels for the Hornets.

Currently, Magoffin County is 1-0 in the 57th District.

Magoffin County will compete in the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament in late-February.
