Hornets defeat Fleming Neon, move to 5-0

FLEMING-NEON — Magoffin County is now 5-0 in the 2023 middle school football season.

Visiting Magoffin County (Herald Whitaker) pulled away to defeat Fleming Neon 45-16 in a middle school football game on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

The Hornets led Fleming Neon 26-8 at halftime and remained in control after the intermission period.

Kolton Risner (two touchdowns), Blake Wireman (two touchdowns), Aden Montgomery (one touchdown), Jairen Howard (one touchdown) and Niko Dahmer (one touchdown) each reached the endzone in Magoffin County’s win over Fleming Neon.

In addition, Mason Peck, Jacoby Arnett and James Fultz rushed for additional positive yardage for the Hornets.

A pair of kickers made an impact on special teams in Magoffin County’s victory. Dahmer connected on two extra-point kicks while Montgomery added one PAT.

The Hornets have notched wins over Fleming Neon, Breathitt County, Letcher County, Paintsville and reigning state champion Lawrence County in the 2023 middle school football season.

Magoffin County is scheduled to meet East Ridge in its next game on Thursday, Sept. 14.
