Hornets drop district game to Golden Eagles

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central prevented Magoffin County from entering the win column at the start of the week, defeating the Hornets 18-2 in four innings in a 57th District game on Monday, April 15.

Kaleb Callaham started on the mound for Johnson Central and earned the win. Callaham pitched three innings and recorded three strikeouts.

Replacing Callaham on the mound for the Golden Eagles, Levi Pennington pitched one inning.

Pennington struck out one Magoffin County batter.

Ethan Salyer started on the mound for Magoffin County and suffered the loss.

Replacing Salyer on the hill, Ian McCarty pitched in relief for the Hornets.

Johnson Central (8-9 overall, 2-0 57th District) scored 18 runs on 11 hits. Callaham (one hit, one RBI), Brayden Shepherd (three hits, three RBIs), Chase Preece (two hits, two RBIs), Boston Crace (one hit, two RBIs), Ashton Shepherd (one hit, one RBI), Ethan McCarty (one hit, one RBI), Alex Marcum (one hit), Cameron Kelsey (one hit), Rylan Kelsey (one RBI) and Dawson Montgomery (one RBI) were each active offensively for the Golden Eagles.

Magoffin County (0-8 overall, 0-2 57th District) plated two runs on four hits. Salyer (one hit), McCarty (one hit), Connor Blanton (one hit, one RBI) and Kaden Litteral (one hit, one RBI) each contributed offensively for the Hornets. Delivering an extra-base hit for Magoffin County, Blanton doubled.
