PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central kept Magoffin County from advancing in the 57th District Baseball Tournament, shutting out the Hornets 5-0 on Monday, May 18.
The loss eliminated Magoffin County from the 57th District Baseball Tournament. Magoffin County exited the 2026 high school baseball season with a 10-14 record.
Johnson Central pushed across its first run during the bottom half of the third inning. Then, after a scoreless inning, Johnson Central manufactured four runs during the bottom half of the fifth frame.
Levi Penningtn pitched a no-hitter for Johnson Central and earned the win on the mound. Pennington, who allowed only one walk, recorded 12 strikeouts.
Michael Trusty started on the mound for Magoffin County and took the loss. Trusty pitched four innings and recorded four strikeouts.
Following Trusty, Isaac Howard pitched two innings in relief for the Hornets. Howard struck out one Johnson Central batter.
Johnson Central scored five runs on six hits. Kyler Callaham (two hits, one RBI), Alex Marcum (two hits), Braxton Perry (one hit), Mason McKenzie (one hit) and Kaleb Callaham (one RBI) accounted for Johnson Central’s offense. Connecting for an extra-base hit, Kyler Callaham doubled.
Prior to suffering the season-ending loss, Magoffin County, under the direction of Coach Gabe Burchell, showed much improvement throughout the regular season.
