HAZARD — Magoffin County was limited offensively as Perry County Central won 47-14 in the Bill Dixon Bowl on Friday, Sept. 4.
Following the loss, Magoffin County slipped to 1-2.
Perry County Central, a team on the rise, improved to 2-1 after posting the win.
Magoffin County reached the endzone during the opening period but faced a deficit at the end of each quarter.
Perry County Central outscored Magoffin County 28-6 in the opening quarter, forcing the Hornets to play from behind.
The Commodores entered halftime ahead 41-6.
Maintaining a lead, Perry County Central led 47-6 at the end of the third quarter.
Perry County Central rushed 30 times for 241 yards and six touchdowns in its winning effort.
Leading the way on the ground for Perry County Central, Keagan Cecil rushed 14 times for 109 yards and three touchdowns.
As part of a strong effort on the ground for the Commodores, Brayden Day, Parker Maggard and Kaiden Gibson added one rushing touchdown apiece.
Maggard paced Perry County Central through the air, completing nine passes for 184 yards and one touchdown. Finding the endzone via the air, Josh Miler was on the receiving end of Maggard’s scoring pass.
Quarterback Cole Howard paced Magoffin County, completing nine passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns. James Fultz and Jairen Howard each hauled in one touchdown pass reception for the Hornets.
Magoffin County rushed 15 times for 84 yards. Blake Wreman was the Hornets’ leading rusher. Wireman rushed seven times for 58 yards.
Aiding Magoffin County on the ground, Cole Howard rushed five times for 21 yards. In addition, Cole Howard supplied a two-point conversion run.
Defensively for Magoffin County, John Fultz recorded a game-high 12 tackles.
In another solid defensive performance for Magoffin County, Isaac Yates tallied 10 tackles.
James Fultz (six tackles), Andrew Hall (six tackles), Bryce Buckallew (five tackles), Mason Peck (five tackles) and Nicholas Dahmer (five tackles) were additional key defensive players for the Hornets. Both Peck and Caleb Lovely recorded a tackle for a loss for the Hornets.
Magoffin County is scheduled to visit West Carter for its next game on Friday, Sept. 11.
