Hornets knock off Pike Central in five innings, 18-4

Magoffin County knocked off 15th Region counterpart Pike County Central 18-4 in five innings in a high school softball game on Saturday, May 8.

BUCKLEYS CREEK – Magoffin County knocked off 15th Region counterpart Pike County Central 18-4 in five innings in a high school softball game on Saturday, May 8.

The Hornets forced host Pike County Central to play from behind during the non-district high school softball matchup.

Jaden Williams claimed the win in the circle for the Hornets. Over five innings, Williams allowed four runs on six hits while giving up only one walk and registering seven strikeouts.

Pike County Central pitcher Lilly Blackburn took the loss in the circle.

Magoffin County thrived offensively, scoring 18 runs on 23 hits. The Hornets’ offensive effort featured nine different players with at least one hit.

Williams (3-for-3, four RBIs), Ashlyn Patrick (4-for-4, one RBI), Emilee Bailey (4-for-5, one RBI), Scarlett McCarty (3-for-5, one RBI), Jaylynn Lafferty (2-for-3, two RBIs), Makenna Jordan (2-for-3, one RBI), Holly Handshoe (2-for-4, one RBI), Katie Howard (2-for-5, one RBI) and Rylie Castle (1-for-3, two RBIs) made up Magoffin County’s offensive attack.

Lafferty belted a home run while Williams smacked three doubles.

Magoffin County and Pike County Central met for the first time in the 2021 high school softball season.
