Hornets outlast Jaguars for first win

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County outlasted visiting Floyd Central 2-1 in four innings to notch its first win in the 2023 high school baseball season on Wednesday, April 5.

The Hornets entered the win column after exiting March 0-5.

Rivals from bordering districts, Magoffin County and Floyd Central met for the first time in the 2023 high school baseball season.

Aden Barnett claimed the win on the mound for the Hornets. Barnett held Floyd Central to one run on two hits while recording five strikeouts over four innings. Displaying control throughout his pitching outing, Barnett didn’t give up any walks.

Koen Reeves started on the mound for Floyd Central and suffered the loss despite allowing only one hit and zero earned runs. Reeves recorded three strikeouts.

Magoffin County plated two runs on only one hit. Kaden Litteral collected Magoffin County’s lone hit in the game.

Barnett and Colin Litteral each scored one run for the Hornets in the win.
Showing patience at the plate, Kaden Litteral, Colin Litteral and Braxton Howard each drew a walk for Magoffin County during the matchup.

Jacob Bentley accounted for Floyd Central’s offense, finishing with one hit and one RBI.
