Hornets score late to seal victory over Rowan County

Herald Whitaker Middle School Hornets snatched the lead late in the game in a 15-12 victory over Rowan County Middle School on Saturday, April 17. The Hornets trailed 12-10 in the top of the fifth inning when Herald Whitaker Middle School Hornets scored on a stolen base during Braxton Howard’s at bat. Then Howard doubled, driving in two.

The base paths were crowded in this high-scoring game. Herald Whitaker Middle School Hornets collected 12 hits and Rowan County Middle School had 15.

Rowan County Middle School captured the lead in the first inning. Mayhan drew a walk, scoring one run.

In the top of the third inning, Herald Whitaker Middle School Hornets tied things up at nine. Herald Whitaker Middle School Hornets scored one run on a stolen base.

Khauner Baine was on the pitcher’s mound for Herald Whitaker Middle School Hornets. The righty went one inning, allowing seven runs on five hits and striking out one.

Dehart was on the hill for Rowan County Middle School. The bulldog surrendered 15 runs on 12 hits over five innings, striking out six.

Trusty went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Herald Whitaker Middle School Hornets in hits. Herald Whitaker Middle School Hornets stole 11 bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Trusty led the way with four.

Rowan County Middle School totaled 15 hits in the game. Rogers, Dehart, Lykins, and Black each managed multiple hits for Rowan County Middle School. Rowan County Middle School tore up the base paths, as four players stole at least two bases. Richardson led the way with three.
