Hornets to compete in KYMSFA State Playoffs

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County will be well-represented in the 2023 Kentucky Middle School Football Association State Playoffs.

Herald Whitaker Middle School (Magoffin County) is scheduled to host Adams Middle School (Prestonsburg) in the opening round of the Kentucky Middle School Football Association 8th Grade Division 3 State Playoffs on Saturday, Oct. 14.

Kickoff for the postseason matchup between the Hornets and the Blackcats is set for 11 a.m.

Magoffin County is among the teams in Region 4. In addition to Magoffin County, which is seeded third, Region 4 includes Prestonsburg, Hazard, Belfry, Pikeville and Betsy Layne.

Admission for the Magoffin County-Prestonsburg game will be $6 for adults and $3 for students.

6th Grade: Magoffin County is the top seed in Region 4 of the Kentucky Middle School Football Association 6th Grade State Playoffs and matched up against Pikeville in an opening round game on Thursday, Oct. 12.

The Hornets will host the Panthers. Kickoff for the Magoffin County-Pikeville game is slated for 6 p.m.

Region 4 of the 6th Grade State Playoffs is comprised of Magoffin County, Pikeville, Breathitt County, Betsy Layne, Hazard, Knott County, Letcher Central and Pike Central.

Currently, both Magoffin County teams (5th-6th, 7th-8th) are vying for conference championships. The Hornets swept Knott County squads in the EKMC Playoffs on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
