SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is set to host rival Morgan County for its regular season finale on Friday, Oct. 27.
Longtime rivals, Magoffin County and Morgan County will meet for a non-district matchup.
Magoffin County is 3-6. The Hornets have notched wins over Martin County, Powell County and Estill County.
Magoffin County has dropped games to Montgomery County, Lewis County, Leslie County, Russell, Belfry and Lawrence County.
The Hornets’ first two losses in the current campaign were via single digits. After opening the season 0-4, Magoffin County has shown much improvement. Headed to the postseason, Magoffin County has won three of its last five games.

“We’re back at work, preparing for the game versus Morgan County,” DeRossett commented at the start of the week. “We have a great senior class and this will be their last home game. I know we will have a big crowd and the student section will be rocking it! We’re really just blessed to be on Magoffin Mountain.”
Morgan County is 6-3. The Cougars have registered wins over Jenkins (2), Berea, Fairview, Knott County Central and Phelps.
Morgan County has dropped games to East Ridge, Western Hills and Holy Cross (Covington).
The Cougars have posted back-to-back wins. Following the KHSAA’s latest realignment, which was finalized in January, Morgan County isn’t competing in a district.

The Hornets and Cougars are poised to meet for the 18th time since 1998. Magoffin County has notched three straight wins over Morgan County, prevailing 40-34 in the two teams’ last meeting on Oct. 28. 2022.
Kickoff for the upcoming Magoffin County-Morgan County game is set for 7:30 p.m.
