SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is set to host Powell County for a Class 3A, District 8 game on Friday, Sept. 29.
Newfound Class 3A, District 8 rivals, Magoffin County and Powell County did not meet during 2022 high school football season. But the Hornets and Pirates are familiar foes.
Magoffin County is 1-5 overall. The Hornets outlasted Martin County 16-14 for a win on Friday, Sept. 15. Magoffin County has suffered losses to Montgomery County, Lewis County, Leslie County, Russell and Belfry.

Powell County is 1-4 overall. The Pirates pulled away to defeat Fairview 59-16 on Friday, Sept. 22. Powell County has dropped games to Western Hills, Floyd Central, Pike County Central and West Carter.

Following the KHSAA’s football realignment, which was finalized in January, Magoffin County, Powell County, Belfry, Lawrence County and Estill County, comprise Class 3A, District 8.
Magoffin County has regular season games remaining versus Powell County, Lawrence County, Estill County and Morgan County.
Kickoff for Magoffin County-Powell County game is set for 7:30 p.m.
