Hornets to start after school workouts Jan. 11

SALYERSVILLE — Following an appearance in the Class 3A State Football Playoffs, Magoffin County will start after school workouts on Wednesday, Jan. 11.

After school workouts will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:50-4:30 p.m.

The Hornets compiled a 4-7 record in the 2022 high school football season, notching wins over Knott County Central, Bellevue, Class 3A, District 8 foe Floyd Central and rival Morgan County.

Magoffin County dropped games to Breathitt County, Prestonsburg, Lawrence County, Belfry, Pike County Central, Clay County and Ashland.

Several players produced for Magoffin County throughout the 2022 high school football season.

Numerous players are back on the gridiron for Magoffin County in 2023.

Magoffin County will finalize and release its 2023 schedule at a later date.

John DeRossett is preparing to guide Magoffin County through another offseason. DeRossett recently wrapped up his first season as the Hornets’ head coach.

In addition to the 2023 schedule, Magoffin County will announce preseason opponents later in its offseason.

Magoffin County is scheduled to kick off the 2023 high school football season in the Recreation Bowl at Montgomery County on Saturday, Aug. 19. The Hornets are slated to meet host Montgomery County in the tradition-rich high school football bowl game.
