Hornets to visit Estill County for district matchup

SALYERSVILLE — Fresh off an open week, Magoffin County is set to visit Estill County for a Class 3A, District 8 matchup on Friday, Oct. 20.

The Hornets and Engineers did not meet during the 2022 high school football season.

Following the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s realignment, which was finalized in late-January, Magoffin County and Estill County are Class 3A, District 8 rivals.

Magoffin County is 2-6 overall and 1-2 in Class 3A, District 8. The Hornets have notched wins over Martin County and Powell County.

Magoffin County has dropped games to Montgomery County, Lewis County, Leslie County, Russell, Belfry and Lawrence County.

Despite being limited to two wins through its first eight games in the 2023 high school football season, Magoffin County continues to show improvement on the gridiron. Head coach John DeRossett guides the Hornets.

Estill County is 4-4 overall and 1-2 in Class 3A, District 8. The Engineers have posted wins over East Carter, West Carter, Bath County and Powell County.

Estill County has dropped games to Harrison County, South Laurel, Lawrence County and Belfry.

Magoffin County has regular season games remaining versus Estill County and Morgan County.

Kickoff for the Magoffin County-Estill County game is set for 7:30 p.m. in Irvine.
