SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County will visit Leslie County for its third game in the 2024 high school football season on Friday, Sept. 6.
The Hornets and Eagles met in 2023. Leslie County managed to shut out Magoffin County 37-0 when the two teams met during the 2023 high school football season.
Both Magoffin County and Leslie County are 1-1,
Montgomery County pushed past Magoffin County 28-14 in the 2024 Recreation Bowl on Saturday, Aug. 24. But the Hornets bounced back.
Magoffin County shut out Lewis County 40-0 in the 2024 Founders Day Bowl on Friday, Aug. 30. The Hornets blanked the Lions in a home opener.
Prestonsburg outlasted Leslie County 22-19 on Friday, Aug. 23. Working its way into the win column, Leslie County battled back from behind to beat Floyd Central 41-26 on Friday, Aug. 30.
Magoffin County competes in Class 3A, District 8. Head coach John DeRossett guides the Hornets.
Leslie County competes in Class 2A, District 6. Head coach Eddie Melton guides the Eagles.
Floyd Central has regular season games remaining versus Leslie County, Russell, Martin County, Belfry, Powell County, Lawrence County, Estill County and Morgan County.
Leslie County has regular season games remaining versus Magoffin County, Harlan, Clay County, Paintsville, Danville, Breathitt County, Somerset and Pineville.
DeRossett is looking forward to seeing his team take the field for its upcoming game versus Leslie County.
“We have Leslie County this week and I feel like they are a really good team,” said DeRossett. “I feel like our guys will be ready for another Friday night.”
Kickoff for the Magoffin County-Leslie County game is set for 7:30 p.m. in Hyden.
