Hornets turn back Cougars

SALYERSVILLE — Returning to the win column, Magoffin County defeated rival Morgan County 11-7 on Friday, April 17.

The Hornets and Cougars met for the first time in the 2026 high school baseball season.

Evan Reed started on the mound for Magoffin County and earned the win. Reed pitched the first three innings.

Following Reed on the mound for Magoffin County, Hunter Arnett pitched the last four innings. Pitching out of a relief role for the Hornets, Hunter Arnett picked up the save.

Magoffin County scored 11 runs on 13 hits. Reed (two hits), Isaac Howard (two hits, three RBIs), Brayden Bailey (two hits, two RBIs), Michael Trusty (two hits, one RBI), Mason Peck (two hits, one RBI), Brayden Carroll (one hit, one RBI), Aiden Carty (one hit, one RBI). and Aden Montgomery (one hit) each delivered offensively for the Hornets. Bailey doubled twice, accounting for two of Magoffin County’s four extra-base hits. Aiding Magoffin County in its victory, Trusty and Reed added one double apiece.

Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Morgan County for a game in the final month of the 2026 high school baseball regular season on Tuesday, May 5.
