Hot-shooting Hornets top Warriors in regular season finale

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County pulled away to defeat East Ridge 87-55 in its regular season finale on Friday, Feb. 23.

After registering the win, Magoffin County improved to 16-12.

As a result of the loss, East Ridge dropped to 10-17.

Thriving offensively, Magoffin County shot 67.3 percent (35-of-52) from the field. The Hornets made 10 of 20 three-point field goal attempts, shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc.

Magoffin County shot 70 percent (seven-of-10) from the free throw line.

Active inside, Magoffin County outrebounded East Ridge 25-15.

Aden Barnett poured in a game-high 35 points to lead Magoffin County to the win. Barnett, who has been named the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Player of the Year, made five of six three-point field goal attempts.

Accompanying Barnett in double figures for Magoffin County, Grayson Whitaker and Zane Whitaker netted 17 points apiece.

Eight different players scored the Hornets. The additional scorers for Magoffin County were Walker Russell (seven points), Ethan Salyer (five points), Noah Sammons (two points), Parker Bowling (two points) and Tayte Hall (two points).

Russell led Magoffin County inside, securing 10 rebounds.

East Ridge shot 41.1 percent (23-of-56) from the field. The Warriors made nine of 31 three-point field goal attempts, shooting 29 percent from three-point range.

East Ridge missed both of its free throw attempts in the matchup.
Jackson Keene scored 20 points to pace the Warriors. Keene connected on four of 11 three-point field goal attempts.

Accompanying Keene in double figures for East Ridge, Gunner Ward netted 10 points.

Finishing in single digits, Carter Damron (eight points), Talon Hopkins (six points), Landon Robinson (four points), Keegan Wallace (three points), Gavin Dameron (two points) and Damien Ramsey (two points) accounted for the rest of East Ridge’s scoring.
