Lady Hornets drop 57th District doubleheader to Johnson Central

PAINTSVILLE — Magoffin County dropped a 57th District softball doubleheader to host Johnson Central on Wednesday, April 29.

Johnson Central defeated Magoffin County in back-to-back games, winning 8-3 and 15-0.

Johnson Central 8, Magoffin County 3: Visiting Magoffin County plated multiple runs but Johnsen Central managed to win 8-3 in the opening game of a 57th District softball doubleheader on Wednesday, April 29.

Madalynn Cantrell started in the circle for Johnson Central and earned the win. Cantrell pitched four innings and recorded eight strikeouts.

Following Cantrell, Molly Music pitched one inning in relief for the Lady Eagles. Music struck out two Magoffin County batters and claimed the save.

Karissa Keeton pitched for Magoffin County and suffered the loss in the circle. Keeton logged two strikeouts.

Johnson Central scored eight runs on nine hits. Shelby Arnett (three hits, three RBIs), Arabekla Bowen (three hits, one RBI), Leah Hall (two hits, one RBI), Kiley Hall (one hit) and Keylee Blair (one RBI) each aided Johnson Central offensively. Arnett thrived at the plate, hitting both a triple and a home run.

Magoffin County pushed across three runs on six hits. Kaisee Harvey (two hits), Jaycie Wells (one hit, two RBIs), Abby Barnett (one hit, one RBI), Macy Williams (one hit) and Kiley Lemaster (one hit) accounted for Magoffin County’s offense. Providing a lift at the plate, Barnett homered.

Johnson Central 15, Magoffin County 0 (3 innings): Johnson Central pulled away to defeat Magoffin County 15-0 in three innings in the final game of a 57th District softball doubleheader on Wednesday, April 29.

Arabella Bowen pitched a shutout for Johnson Central and earned the win in the circle. Bowen recorded six strikeouts.

Addison Schlick started in the circle for Magoffin County and suffered the loss. Schlick pitched two-thirds of an inning and struck out one Johnson Central batter.

Following Schlick, Karissa Keeton pitched two and one-third innings in relief for the Lady Hornets.

Johnson Central scored 15 runs on nine hits. Bowen (one hit, one RBI), Malli Price (two hits, three RBIs), Shelby Arnett (two hits, two RBIs), Ava McCarty (two hits, one RBI), Leah Hall (one hit, two RBIs), Brylee Hackney (one hit, one RBI) and Ellabeth Blair (one RBI) were Johnson Central’s top offensive contributors. Price, a seventh grader, homered twice.

Offensively for Magoffin County, Isabella Trusty and Kelsey Slone each hit safely once.
