Lady Hornets outlast Floyd Central for first win

SALYERSVILLE — Determined Magoffin County outlasted Floyd Central 9-8 in nine innings to notch its first win in the 2024 high school softball season on Tuesday, April 16.

After notching the win, Magoffin County improved to 1-6.

Floyd Central dropped to 5-4 after suffering the loss.

Magoffin County plated two runs in the bottom half of the ninth inning to claim the victory.

Jaden Williams earned the win in the circle for the Lady Hornets. Williams pitched a complete game, recording 15 strikeouts.

Floyd Central pitcher Whitley Hall took the loss in the circle. Hall pitched a complete game of her own, posting seven strikeouts.

Magoffin County scored nine runs on 12 hits. Williams (three hits, one RBI), Abby Barnett (three hits, three RBIs), Kayleigh Lemaster (two hits, three RBIs), Isabella Trusty (two hits), Kiley Lemaster (one hit, one RBI) and Laney Bledsoe (one hit) produced at the plate for Magoffin County in its thrilling win. Williams, Barnett and Trusty each doubled.

Offensively for Floyd Central, Hall (one hit), Aubree Shelton (two hits, three RBIs), Alaina Morris (two hits), Allie Hamilton (two hits), Raegan Laferty (two hits), Carmen Rackey (one hit, one RBI), Brooklyn Lewis (one hit) and Mia Queen-Gilliam (one hit) each contributed. Both Hall and Laferty doubled.

Magoffin County and Floyd Central aren’t scheduled to meet again in the 2024 high school softball season.
