SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County pulled away to beat Betsy Layne 10-1 in a high school baseball game on Monday, April 12.
The Hornets and Bobcats are longtime 15th Region rivals.

Continuing to show improvement under head coach Jacob Litteral, Magoffin County notched its third straight win following back-to-back losses.

After notching the win, Magoffin County improved to 4-2.

Magoffin County pitcher Lucas Literal claimed the win on the mound. Working as the Hornets’ starting pitcher, Litteral allowed one run on three hits while recording 11 strikeouts in four innings.

Ethan Prewitt closed the game out on the mound for Magoffin County. Prewitt pitched three innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while recording five strikeouts.

Offensively, homestanding Magoffin County benefited from a balanced offensive attack.

Magoffin County plated 10 runs on 12 hits. Trenton Coleman (3-for-4), Ian Prewitt (2-for-4, 3 RBIs), Lucas Litteral (2-for-2), Ethan Salyer (1-for-1), Caleb Wilson (1-for-3), Kaden Bowling (1-for-2, 1 RBI), Caleb Howard (1-for-3, 3 RBIs) and Colin Litteral (1-for-3) all delivered at the plate for Magoffin County, Howard, Ian Prewitt and Colin Litteral each doubled for the Hornets.

Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Betsy Layne on May 8.
