Magoffin County defeats Paintsville for district win

PAINTSVILLE — Magoffin County defeated host Paintsville 6-2 in a 57th District softball game on Tuesday, March 21.

Longtime 57th District rivals, Magoffin County and Paintsville met for the first time in the 2023 high school softball season.

After notching the win, Magoffin County improved to 3-1 overall and opened 1-0 in the 57th District.

Following the loss, Paintsville dropped to 1-5 overall and opened 0-1 in the district.

Magoffin County pitcher Jaden Williams earned the win in the circle. Limiting Paintsville batters, Williams allowed two runs on five hits while recording four strikeouts.

Paintsville pitcher Laney Bledsoe suffered the loss in the circle. Bledsoe allowed six runs on nine hits while recording 12 strikeouts.

Magoffin County plated six runs on nine hits. Williams (one hit), Kayleigh Lemaster (two hits, two RBIs), Katie Howard (two hits, two RBIs), Jaylynn Lafferty (one hit, two RBIs), Rylie Castle (one hit), Katie Carty (one hit) and Makenna Jordan (one hit) each delivered at the plate for Magoffin County in the district win.

Offensively for Paintsville, Bledsoe (one hit), Chessa Collins (three hits), Destiny Trimble (one hit, one RBI) and Magge Music (one hit) each contributed.

Magoffin County is scheduled to host Paintsville on Monday, April 24.
