Magoffin County drops district game to Paintsville

SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County slipped back into the column as visiting Paintsville pulled away to win 59-43 in a 57th District girls’ basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 30.

With the loss, Magoffin County dropped to 3-8 overall and 0-4 in the 57th District.

Paintsville improved to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the district with the win.

Paintsville shot 33.9 percent (19-of-56) from the field. The Lady Tigers were 8-of-23 from 3-point range, shooting 34.8 percent beyond the arc.

Paintsville shot 48.1 percent (13-of-27) from the free throw line.

Delivering a double-double, Chloe Hannah paced Paintsville with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Emilea Preece joined Hannah in double figures in scoring for Paintsville, posting 16 points.

Nearly reaching double figures, Leandra Curnutte netted nine points for the Lady Tigers.

Following Curnutte, Camryn Helton (six points), Ava Hyden (five points, 11 rebounds), Abby Maynard and Izzy Chirico (two points) provided additional scoring for the Lady Tigers .

Magoffin County finished 13-of-57 from the field. The Lady Hornets were 2-of-17 from 3-point range.

Magoffin County finished 15-of-26 (57.7 percent) from the free throw line.

Angel Mullis powered Magoffin County with a game-high double-double, scoring 24 points and securing 17 rebounds. Mullis was 12-of-15 from the free throw line.

Accompanying Mullis in double figures in scoring for the Lady Hornets, Haley Barnett added 12 points.

Along with the two scorers in double figures, Karah Lafferty and Stephanie Helton chipped in offensively for Magoffin County, posting five points and two points respectively.

Magoffn County is scheduled to visit Prestonsburg on Wednesday, Feb. 10.
