Magoffin County enters second half of prep hoops season

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County has entered the second half of the 2023-24 girls’ high school basketball season.

Former 15th Region champion Magoffin County will be looking to show improvement in the second half of the current prep hoops campaign. Magoffin County started the week 1-15 overall and 0-3 in the 57th District.

The Lady Hornets pulled away to beat Buckhorn 49-35 for a win on Thursday, Dec. 21.

Johnson Central defeated Magoffin County 65-18 in a 57th District girls’ basketball game on Monday, Jan. 8.

Dealing Magoffin County its seventh straight loss, Pike County Central prevailed 41-14 in another matchup on Friday, Jan. 12.

Despite its record, Magoffin County features multiple talented young players. Magoffin County is the youngest girls’ high school basketball team in the 15th Region. Several young Magoffin County players are gaining valuable experience in the 2023-24 girls’ high school basketball season.

Under the direction of Coach Justin Williams, Magoffin County has regular season games remaining versus Wolfe County, Paintsville, Pike County Central, Floyd Central, Greenup County, East Ridge, Martin County, Prestonsburg, Phelps and Shelby Valley.

Magoffin County will compete in the girls’ high school basketball postseason in late-February.
