Magoffin County pushes Pikeville in loss

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County came up short as Pikeville held on to win 10-7 on Monday, April 8.

Following the loss, Magoffin County dropped to 0-5.

Pikeville scored first and never trailed. However, Magoffin County excelled late in the game. Magoffin County scored all seven of its runs over the final three innings.

Lexie Akers pitched a complete game for Pikeville and claimed the win in the circle.

Akers struck out three Magoffin County batters over seven innings.

Jaden Williams started in the circle for Magoffin County and suffered the loss. Williams recorded four strikeouts over four innings.

Laney Bledsoe pitched in relief for the Lady Hornets. Bledsoe struck out one Pikeville batter over three innings.

Pikeville scored 10 runs on 11 hits. Macey Wright (two hits, two RBIs), Shana Ray (two hits, one RBI), Taylor Ritz (two hits), Gracie Hall (two hits), Ginna Jones (one hit, two RBIs), Cate Salyers (one hit) and Larren Collins (one hit) combined to account for Pikeville’s offense. Both Ray and Jones doubled.

Magoffin County plated seven runs on four hits. Williams (one RBI), Katie Carty (one hit, two RBIs), Abby Barnett (one hit, two RBIs), Kayleigh Lemaster (one hit), Kiley Lemaster (one hit) and Jayda Miller (one RBI) each produced offensively for the Lady Hornets.

Providing a lift at the plate, Barnett homered.

Magoffin County lost to Pikeville for the second time in the 2024 high school softball season.
