Man dies after US 460 wreck

SALYERSVILLE – A Magoffin County man passed away at a local area hospital following a serious one-vehicle crash on US 460 West in Magoffin County Tuesday.

Around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 3, a man driving a pickup truck on 460 near the intersection of Route 30 lost control, overturning his vehicle. Several eyewitnesses, other motorists, spoke with Mortimer Media Group, describing the crash as a very violent rollover accident.

A Ford F-150 pickup truck reportedly dropped off its side of the roadway, striking a ditch or culvert, and then losing control, re-entering the roadway, going into a slide and barrel-rolling numerous times. Witnesses to the crash described the male driver, the only occupant of the truck, as being thrown through the sunroof of the vehicle, essentially being ejected 20 to 30 feet. The vehicle landed beside the roadway on it’s wheels, and the driver was approximately 40 to 50 feet away.

Witnesses rushed to his aid, telling Mortimer Media Group he was unresponsive, but they found a faint pulse at the time.

EMS and law enforcement arrived moments later and a helicopter was called to the scene, landing at North Magoffin Elementary. The driver was in such critical condition that he was not stable enough to be life flighted to a trauma center.

He was transported by ground ambulance while CPR was performed the entire time, with authorities blocking all intersections, and taken to Paul B. Hall Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Randall Salyer, age 64, of Salyersville was later identified as the man driving the truck. His full obituary is available on A4 of this week’s paper.

The road remained closed for nearly two hours for reconstruction of the accident, with the Salyersville Police Department leading the investigation.
