Opponents from four classes fill Hornets’ schedule

SALYERSVILLE — Opponents from four of the state’s six classes will remain on Magoffin County’s schedule in the 2022 high school football season.

The Hornets’ 2022 schedule includes opponents from Class 1A, Class 2A, Class 3A and Class 4A.

Magoffin County competes in Class 3A, District 8.

Bellevue (Sept. 9, home) is the only Class 1A team on the Hornets’ schedule.

The Hornets are scheduled to face Breathitt County (Aug. 19, away), Prestonsburg (Aug. 26, home), Knott County Central (Sept. 2, home) and Morgan County (Oct. 28, away) from Class 2A during the 2022 high school football season.

District rivals Lawrence County (Sept. 16, home), Belfry (Sept. 23, home), Floyd Central (Oct. 7, away) and Pike County Central (Oct. 14, away) represent Class 3A on the Hornets’ 2022 schedule.

Class 4A member Clay County (Oct. 21, away) is the other opponent on the Hornets’ upcoming slate.

Kickoff for each of Magoffin County’s games in the 2022 high school football season is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Under the direction of then-head coach Chris Gamble, Magoffin County compiled a 6-4 record during the 2021 high school football season. The Hornets made an appearance in the 2021 KHSAA Class 3A State Playoffs.

John DeRossett is preparing to guide Magoffin County in his first season as the Hornets’ head coach. The Hornets are slated to open preseason practice at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 11.
