LEXINGTON — Magoffin County High School senior student-athlete Caleb Parsons has been named to the 2024 TomLeachKY.com All-Resilient Team.
The All-Resilient Team honors student-athletes from Kentucky high schools who have had to overcome some form of adversity to compete and often excel in sports.
Parsons was a kicker for Magoffin County during the 2023 high school football season. He battled his way back to the gridiron.
“Caleb is a great young man.” said Magoffin County football head coach John DeRossett. “He was a defensive starter for our team during his junior year. He got a medical setback and spent quite a bit of time in the hospital. His teammates and the community were there to support him. He has a great family, his mom, Andrea, teaches at the high school. When Caleb got out of the hospital, he faced a tough road to recovery. He is a very determined young man and told me one day that he wanted to kick. I said great. He started to learn how to be a kicker so he could contribute to the team again. He loves the weight room. He continued to gain his strength and weight back. He worked hard every day on kicking. Before long, Caleb could kick it just about any way we asked on the kickoff and started to be very consistent on extra points. It is a true success story of someone refusing to give up and contribute to his team. I have been honored to coach Caleb. He will go on to do great things in life. He has a great work ethic and attitude. I love his family and I know how proud they are of Caleb. Maybe he can come back and teach our young kickers what it takes to be good.”
Parsons will be honored at the annual Kentucky High School Athletic Directors Association awards banquet on Thursday, April 25.
