Robert H. (Bob) Salyer

Robert H. (Bob) Salyer passed away on April 1, 2022 after a courageous fifteen-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. Bob was born on November 7, 1933 on Puncheon Creek in Magoffin County, KY to Reva and Lloyd Salyer. After serving in the U.S. Army in Yokohoma, Japan, he began a banking career in Lexington at the Bank of Commerce, where he worked for 11 years before joining the Venice-Nokomis Bank and Trust in Venice, FL as a Vice President. He returned to Lexington in 1972 and worked in real estate for more than a decade before taking a position in his hometown as an Executive Vice President at the Salyersville National Bank. Bob had a lifelong passion for classic cars; in his retirement he fully restored his family’s 1956 Ford Thunderbird. He loved to travel, had a playful sense of humor, and was known for his elegance and gracious kindness. He was a 1951 graduate of Henry Clay High School and attended the University of Kentucky, where he was a member of Sigma Chi. He is survived by his family: his wife Charlotte Thompson, Laura Grace Thompson (Fran Daly), Anne Taylor, Maren Thompson Bzdek (Justin), Morgan Taylor, Joey Bzdek, Kayla Taylor, Medrith Lee Norman (Deron) and Medrith Katherine Norman. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Medrith Jo Hager. A private graveside service will be held at the Howard Cemetery in White Oak, KY. Visitation prior to service will be Friday, April 8 from 5 to 7pm at Milward Funeral Directors, 1509 Trent Blvd, Lexington, KY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Robert H.
