Smith named Polk County Female Collegiate Athlete of the Year

LAKELAND, Fla. — Indian River softball player Presley Smith was honored as the 2024 Polk County Female Collegiate Athlete of the Year during the Polk County All Sports Awards and Hall of Fame Ceremony at the RP Funding Center on Tuesday, June 18.

Smith is a native of Salyersville. Prior to moving to Florida, Smith was a standout for the Magoffin County High School softball program.

All female athletes from across all divisions are considered for the award Smith earned.

Candidates must be a Polk County high school alumnus or a current athlete at a college in Polk County.

Smith helped to lead Indian River State College to a national title in early-June.

As a freshman utility player for Indian River State College, Smith batted .429 with 4 home runs, 56 RBIs, 53 runs and 29 stolen bases in 67 games.

Among the top junior college softball players in the nation, Smith excels both offensively and defensively. Smith was among 27 recipients of the 2024 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Rawlings Gold Glove Award. Thriving defensively, Smith did not commit an error during her freshman season. In 52 total chances, Smith made 51 putouts and one outfield assist.
