SALYERSVILLE — Currently on its bye week, Magoffin County is preparing for a Class 3A, District 8 at Floyd Central on Thursday, Oct. 6.
Magoffin County and Floyd Central are set to meet for a key Class 3A, District 8 game.
Earlier in the week, Magoffin County Coach John DeRossett confirmed that the Hornets were using the open date to heal up for the upcoming Class 3A, District 8 game versus Floyd Central.
The Hornets entered the week 2-4 overall and 0-2 in Class 3A, District 8. Magoffin County is still looking to qualify for the 2022 KHSAA Class 3A Playoffs. The Hornets have district games remaining versus Floyd Central and Pike County Central.
Floyd Central entered the week 0-6 overall and 0-1 in Class 3A, District 8. The Jaguars dropped a Class 3A, District 8 game to Pike County Central on Friday, Sept. 23. Battling back from behind to win, Pike County Central edged the Jaguars 30-28.
Floyd Central is scheduled to visit Belfry for another Class 3A, District 8 game on Friday, Sept. 30.
The Hornets defeated the Jaguars 46-36 in Salyersville for a Class 3A, District 8 win during the 2021 high school football season.
Magoffin County and Floyd Central are familiar rivals.
Shawn Hager is in his sixth season as Floyd Central head coach after the Jaguars’ football program started in 2017.
Kickoff for the Magoffin County-Floyd Central football game is set for 7:30 p.m. in Eastern.
