SALYERSVILLE — The Hornets will be busy over Christmas Break.
Magoffin County will be among the boys’ high school basketball teams competing in the Berea Holiday Classic at Madison Southern Friday, Dec. 19-Sunday, Dec. 21.
The Berea Holiday Classic is a tradition-rich high school basketball event.
The Hornets are matched up against reigning 5th Region champion Adair County in the opening round of the Berea Holiday Classic on Friday, Dec. 19.
Then, Magoffin County is pitted against Central, a team out of Louisville, in the second round of the Berea Holiday Classic on Saturday, Dec. 20.
Magoffin County is slated to meet 12th Region member Boyle County in the third round of the Berea Holiday Classic on Sunday, Dec. 21.
The Hornets compiled a 7-22 record in the 2024-25 boys’ high school basketball season, rebuilding after thriving one season earlier. Magoffin County, under the direction of Coach Scott Castle, captured the 2023-24 15th Reion boys’ basketball title.
The Hornets are currently 0-6. Magoffin County has suffered losses to Betsy Layne, Knott County Central, Estill County, Belfry, Johnson Central and East Ridge.
