Animal Shelter Updates

SALYERSVILLE – The Magoffin County Animal Shelter has had a lot going on as of late, with donations, fundraisers and lots of new, lovable faces ready for their forever homes.

The Magoffin County Animal Shelter sent in a video to Mortimer Media Group last week, with volunteer Melinda Watson discussing everything going on at the shelter.

“Just wanted to come on and thank everybody today,” Watson said. “We want to start out by thanking Nothing But Love Canine Foundation. They sent us a box in with lots of clothes and leashes and collars for our babies.”

To showcase some the new wares, Watson had a shelter model named Lucky sitting in her lap and wearing one of the donated dresses, which must have helped, because she was adopted just a few days later after she was no longer under a stray hold.

“We also want to thank everybody for the donations on the doggy grams,” Watson said. “We raised $478.”

She also thanked everyone at Prohibition Coffee, Appalachian Smoke, the Family Dollar and all others who have donated recently to the animal shelter.

Watson said they raised over $600 for adoption sponsorships, so every dog and cat at the shelter have not been scheduled to be spayed or neutered prior to their adoptions.

“For March, our fundraiser is going to be these super cute t-shirts,” Watson said while holding up a sample of the shirt available for sale. “They’ll be $21 for small through X-large, and anything above will be $23. You can contact myself, Melissa Hines, come to the animal shelter, we’ll have them at Family Dollar available to look at, and we’ll run these through March to see what else we can do to keep everything we’ve going on for the babies here.”

Anyone can feel free at any time to drop by the Magoffin County Animal Shelter.

Miss Magoffin County Erin Grace Rudd and her Rising Star Kendall Minix stopped by recently to drop off some donations and spending time petting a few new friends.

WKYT Meteorologist and Salyersville native Chris Bailey also recently won $500 to be donated to his organization of choice and he chose to donate it to the Magoffin County Animal Shelter.

The public is invited to come in and take some of the animals for walks or give them treats anytime they’re open. The animal shelter is located on Broadway Street just up from the Salyersville Fire Department. They are open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
