JOHNSON COUNTY – A Magoffin County man was killed in a one-vehicle wreck in Johnson County on March 5.
A commercial vehicle, owned by Jackson Propane Plus and operated by Allen Skaggs, 49, of Salyersville, reportedly left the roadway and Skaggs lost control of the vehicle.
Johnson County Sheriff Scott Hazlette told Mortimer Media Group on Thursday, March 5, from the scene of the accident, “We received a call today at about 12:39 p.m., of a propane tanker wreck at the 9500 block of KY Rt. 201, which is near the Johnson and Lawrence County line. Upon arrival, we had a propane truck that by all indications was traveling south on 201 toward Paintsville and had dropped off the edge of the road. During the recovery process, the driver lost control and shot across both lanes of 201, going over the embankment and ending up in a drainage ditch beside a house here. At the initial response and arrival at the scene, we had propane leaking from the truck, but that has since been sealed and not a problem at this particular point in time. We’ve got members of the W.R. Castle, Oil Springs, Flat Gap and, at one point, Rockhouse volunteer fire departments all on scene. Actually, the Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement are taking the collision and working the collision. I contacted the Kentucky State Police and made them aware it involved a commercial vehicle and a fatality, and they have started an investigation at this point.”
Skaggs was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was the only person in the vehicle.
Jackson Propane Plus posted the following on social media after the wreck:
