MOUNTAIN PARKWAY – A motorist walked away from a serious wreck on the Mountain Parkway that was caused by a deer.

Emergency crews were called to the Mountain Parkway just before the Johnson Fork exit at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Friday, April 17, to a serious wreck that was caused by a deer.

When emergency crews arrived, the driver of the truck was out of the vehicle and walking around, talking and believed to be only suffering from minor injuries.

The driver told Magoffin County Sheriff Bill Meade that a deer ran across his path, he swerved into the other lane to miss it, then the deer, finding it couldn’t climb the rock cliff on the other side of the road, turned around and crossed his path, again. The driver swerved, again, taking out a few hundred feet of guardrail.

“The occupant of the vehicle was coherent,” Sheriff Meade said. “He was talking and he was walking around the scene. Obviously, pretty shook up from it, but other than that, he appears to be doing well.”

The driver was taken to the hospital by an ambulance, but was in good condition, considering.

No other vehicles were involved, but there was a massive amount of debris, resulting in the westbound lanes being reduced to shoulder-only traffic for roughly two hours while crews cleaned the road enough for the road to be completely reopened.
