SALYERSVILLE – A Magoffin County man was arrested after multiple alleged burglary attempts.
According to the arrest citation, Magoffin County Sheriff Department Deputy Tyler Lafferty got a complaint from Allen Drive reporting that a man had attempted to gain entry into several apartments and a nearby residence without permission.
While Lafferty was en route to the complaint, he located the man, identified as Tim McKenzie, 52, of Salyersville, walking in front of Walgreens on Parkway Drive. When he tried to make contact with McKenzie, Lafferty reported that he became combative and refused to follow verbal commands from the officer, refusing to get on the ground and place his hands behind his back. Reportedly, McKenzie balled his fists and charged at the deputy, resulting in a physical altercation.
During the struggle, Lafferty deployed his Taser and pepper spray on McKenzie, but stated in the police report both were ineffective, but he was able to apprehend McKenzie and place him under arrest.
McKenzie was transported to Paintsville ARH for medical clearance before being taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
He is currently facing the following charges: public intoxication of controlled substance (excludes alcohol), third-degree burglary (attempt), resisting arrest; menacing, third-degree assault of a police officer, and second-degree disorderly conduct.
