SALYERSVILLE, Ky. (Aug. 3, 2026) — Two Magoffin County nonprofits will receive a total of $10,000 in emergency funding through the Magoffin County Urgent Needs Grant, helping ensure residents continue to have access to essential food assistance and senior services.

The Magoffin County Community Foundation Advisory Board reviewed applications and unanimously approved two $5,000 grants to address urgent community needs. The grants come from the Patrick Endowment Fund for Magoffin County, held at Blue Grass Community Foundation, through the Magoffin County Urgent Needs Grant program. The program helps local nonprofits respond to urgent, unplanned needs that fall outside their regular budgets, from equipment failures and facility repairs to sudden funding gaps or increased demand for services.

Water into Wine will receive $5,000 to help offset rising utility costs and a shortage of donated food. The organization serves about 2,500 people each month, providing food, clothing, hygiene products and medical supplies throughout Magoffin County and surrounding communities. The pantry also offers online ordering with scheduled pickup, monthly senior commodity distributions and curbside distribution of perishable items when available.

The Magoffin County Senior Citizens Center will receive $5,000 to help retain essential staff after temporary COVID-19 funding expires. The funding will support meal delivery, transportation, wellness checks and congregate meal programs that help older adults remain active and independent while living safely in their homes. Grant funds will provide short-term support while the organization pursues sustainable long-term funding sources.

“The Magoffin County Community Foundation is honored to administer these Urgent Needs Grants from the Patrick Endowment Fund for Magoffin County,” said Jesse Rudd, a member of the Magoffin County Community Foundation Advisory Board. “Scotty Patrick believed in giving back to the community that shaped him, and his generosity continues to make a difference across Magoffin County today. These grants carry on Scotty’s legacy by helping trusted local organizations meet immediate needs and care for our neighbors.”

Future Urgent Needs Grants will be awarded on a rolling basis. Human services nonprofits serving Magoffin County are encouraged to apply at BGCF.org/grant-opportunities.
