Police charge father/son duo with tampering with witness

SALYERSVILLE – A father and son duo were arrested last Friday after allegedly tampering with witnesses to another crime the son is accused of committing.

According to a warrant of arrest, Lloyd Andrew Cleve Perkins, 20 years old, of Royalton is accused of stealing a 2018 Yamaha 250 dirt bike from another person’s residence on December 16, 2024. The dirt bike, valued at over $1,000, was taken to a residence on Rt. 30, where it was later recovered, and Perkins was charged with theft by unlawful taking, $1,000 < $10,000.

Both Perkins and his dad, Lloyd E. Perkins, 39, of Salyersville, are accused of tampering with a witness when, on March 11, the dad allegedly threw a bat at one of the reported witnesses on a dirt bike, making contact with the driver’s helmet, and the two allegedly proceeding to fight with the victim in the road at the mouth of Gun Creek. The victim is a known witness in an ongoing case against the younger Perkins, according to Magoffin County Sheriff Bill Meade’s report in the warrants.
The dad then reportedly proceeded to Sandbottom to attack another man with a bat and his fists, according to the warrant.

The two were arrested on March 14, with the elder Perkins charged with tampering with witness and second-degree assault, and his son charged with fourth-degree assault (minor injury) and tampering with witness, in addition to his original theft charge.

The Perkins were taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, where they remain at press time.
