PIKEVILLE – A Magoffin County man was arrested last week as a result of an investigation into a rape allegation.
According to the arrest citation, Kentucky State Police Post 9 Trooper Layne was dispatched on March 31, 2025, concerning an alleged rape that had reportedly occurred four years ago when the victim was 13 years old. After police conducted interviews and an investigation, they had Dewayne Curtis Hunt, 58, of Salyersville, come to Post 9 in Pikeville for an interview on April 10.
During the interview, Hunt was asked about the allegations made against him regarding sexual intercourse with the minor in 2021, but he denied the allegations, according to the police report. Hunt then went on to reportedly contradict himself, admitting to varying degrees of sexual abuse on at least three different occasions.
Hunt was taken into custody at Post 9 and taken to the Big Sandy Detention Center, where he remains at press time, facing the following charges: second-degree rape – no force; incest – person less than 18 by person 3 or more years older; and first-degree sexual abuse. He is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.
Hunt is set for a preliminary hearing in the felony case on April 21, at 9:15 a.m. at the Magoffin County Justice Center.
