PAINTSVILLE — Magoffin County is set to meet Martin County in the semifinals of the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament at Johnson Central High School on Wednesday, Feb. 23.
Tip-off for the Magoffin County-Martin County matchup is set for 7 p.m..
Martin County swept two regular season games from the Hornets.
The Cardinals defeated the Hornets 72-59 on Dec. 10. Claiming its second win over Magoffin County in the 2021-22 boys’ high school basketball season, Martin County prevailed 67-60 on Jan. 19.
However, Magoffin County showed improvement during the two teams’ second meeting.
The winner of the Magoffin County-Martin County game will move on to the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament title game.
Crosstown rivals Johnson Central and Paintsville are slated to meet in the opening game of the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22.
Both the champion and runner-up from the 57th District will advance to the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament.
Paintsville is the reigning 57th District boys’ basketball champion.
The Tigers pulled away to defeat Johnson Central 84-73 in double overtime in the 2020-21 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament title game.
