Lady Hornets fall to Lawrence County in 2A Tournament

EASTERN — Magoffin County fell behind during the first quarter and couldn’t overcome its slow start as Lawrence County pulled away to win 81-38 in the 2A, Section 8 Girls’ Basketball Tournament at Floyd Central High School on Thursday, Jan. 5.

The loss eliminated Magoffin County from the 2A, Section 8 Girls’ Basketball Tournament.

Belmont University signee Kensley Feltner scored 23 points to lead Lawrence County to the win.

Lawrence County shot 54.5 percent (20-of-55) from the field in the tournament game. The Lady Bulldogs shot 33.3 percent (nine-of-27) from the free throw line, making an impact beyond the arc.

Lawrence County, which is a member of the 58th District, shot 75 percent (12-of-26) from the free throw line.

Accompanying Feltner in double figures for Lawrence County, Sophie Adkins scored 12 points and Abby Nelson netted 10 points.

A dozen different players provided scoring for the Lady Bulldogs.

The other scorers for Lawrence County were Lendra Curnutte (eight points), Jada Patton (six points), Addison Bloomfield (five points), Caroline See (three points), Madison Artrip (three points), Emalynn Kitts (three points), Emmallee Holt (three points), Kaison Ward (three points) and Abby Maynard (two points).

Magoffin County managed to shoot 45.5 percent (15-of-33) from the field in the loss. However, Magoffin County finished zero-of-seven from three-point range.

Magoffin County shot 53.3 percent (eight-of-15) from the free throw line.

Inside, Magoffin County was able to outrebound Lawrence County 25-18.

Karah Lafferty and Angel Mullis scored 14 points apiece to lead the Lady Hornets.

Magoffin County’s offensive effort included additional scorers Jaylee Reed (four points), Abby Barnett (four points) and Abigail Bradley (two points).

Jerrica Reed led Magoffin County inside, claiming a game-high nine rebounds.
