Wolfe Co. Search & Rescue win new Land Rover in national contest

WOLFE COUNTY – The Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team won a new, fully decked out Land Rover Defender after submitting a professional-grade promotional video of the rescue team.

On Tuesday, September 28, Land Rover hosted a livestream announcement for their first-ever Land Rover Defender Above and Beyond Service Awards Contest, in which they announced a total of seven new, customized-to-their needs Land Rover Defenders were being awarded.

The contest had over 300 submissions altogether and 165,000 votes, and five finalists were chosen in each of the seven different categories.

Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team were named as one of the five finalists and on Tuesday, via the livestream, were announced as the search and rescue category winners.

Drew Stevens, with the group, told Mortimer Media Group, “We were obviously hopeful, and we wouldn’t have entered if we thought we couldn’t win, but we had some great competition. All of the finalists were deserving and phenomenal teams. It was an honor to even be counted amongst them. We definitely felt like we had some good chances to win this and we were getting a lot of support from the public.”

“It obviously paid off and we couldn’t have done it without everyone getting behind us,” Stevens said. “Everyone kind of got this mission accomplished for us.”

Stevens said he was checking his email daily to see when they would hear back from the contest, but is so thankful to get to spread their message and the vehicle will help them get to hard-to-reach locations when performing search and rescues.

The crew has helped Magoffin County multiple times on search and rescues, answering calls for aid every time.
