Caldwell takes plea deal in sex abuse case

SALYERSVILLE – A Magoffin County man took a plea deal with the Attorney General’s office for rape, sodomy and sexual abuse charges.

In court on Friday, June 5, Justin McCoy Caldwell, 35, of Salyersville, changed his plea to guilty on the charges of third-degree rape, third-degree sodomy and first-degree sexual abuse, in exchange for the charge of incest to be dropped.

Via the plea agreement made with Attorney General Russell Coleman’s office, he agreed to a three-year prison sentence and to register as a lifetime sex offender.

Sentencing for Caldwell is slated for September 3 at the Magoffin County Justice Center.

At press time, Caldwell is being held at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.

Editor’s Note: The indictment or charge of a person by a grand jury or otherwise is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
