PIKEVILLE — University of Pikeville redshirt freshman linebacker Ian McCarty has been named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
McCarty is a Magoffin County High School graduate.
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the honorees for all of the fall 2025 sports. Football, cross country, men’s soccer, women’s soccer and volleyball players were honored for their work in the classroom.
To qualify for NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of a 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale, must be on the eligibility certificate for their sport and must have attended their institution for at least one full year.
The University of Pikeville football team was well represented with 24 honorees. The additional honorees for the University of Pikeville football team were Drew Castle, Bradyn Price, Brayden Reed, Chase Mims, Chuck Moore, Dige Savage, Drew Berry, Grant Scott, Levi Wheeling, Jacoby Thornsbury, Jalen Flowers, Jayden Pepper, Jordan Ratliff, Mason Sayers, Michael Akins, Montavious Hughes, Peyton Sayers, Tommy Turner, Russell Osborne, Trevor Carter, William Cvar, Zach Morris and Zachary Cantrell.
